As you explore various living options, please consider asking the following questions or making the suggested comparisons below. (Abbreviated Libby's House responses are indicated following the question.). This will result in finding peace of mind in the environment you will soon be calling "home".
What environmental benefits are there to this residence?
- Libby's House is situated on 13 acres of wooded property on a quiet, dead end road. From the many windows in the sunrooms to the gated, secure courtyard there is an abundance of nature to observe.
- Libby's House has a soundless call system. Staff wears a pager rather than having our residents and visitors listen to disruptive bells, buzzers and beeps.
- Doors are secured by a keyless, touchpad entry. No one goes in or out without staff awareness.
- Libby's House architecture is designed for easy navigation, even for those with memory impairment. All rooms are on the outer perimeter and all common ares through the center. hand rails throughout aid in independence and safety.
- Libby's House is home to only 20 residents. Smaller communities allow for more one on one personalized attention.
- Libby's House has many places to socialize. Rather than the typical living room and dining room, Libby's House has a sunroom, living room with fireplace, family room, activity room, dining room and private dining room. See Services and Amenities for further details.
- For more private times, we have 18 private bedrooms and two suites. Each room has a private bathroom with shower and a refrigerator. Additionally, we have a beauty shop and a spa tub room. Click here to see pictures of rooms.
How are nutritional needs met?
- Our menu has been developed by our chef, Jeremiah Reynolds, who has studied in various restaurants and schools in the US and abroad. Upon preparation, they are reviewed by an RN for nutritional value. This, along with resident requests and other special dinners, residents enjoy their snacks and meals.
- Therapeutic diets can be offered with a physician's order.
- Residents may keep snacks in their room / refrigerator. Staff will assure the snacks are eaten or disposed of if integrity is a question.
- Staff will assist residents eat as needed through verbal cues, reminders and feeding as necessary.
What would my loved one do all day?
- Activities and socialization take part on many levels. A sample schedule is available upon request (920.946.8730) Ultimately the focus is placed on stimulating the mind, body, and spirit. This is accomplished in large groups, small groups and one on one interactions.
- These practices are developed so each resident can meet with success thereby finding an activity enjoyable rather than frustrating. We modify rules and practices to meet the cognitive ability or physical level for each person. Not all people like all things, so we strive to see 1) what is enjoyed by this particular population and 2) provide enough variety to stimulate all areas of one's being.
- Libby's House is founded on faith, faith in God and the human spirit. All life is sacred. Devotions are offered every morning and evening. Prayers are offered before meals. This practice is optional and is non-denominational.
- In conjunction with the teaching of the Alzheimer's Association, Life Story Books are developed for each resident. This is a team effort with families.
- Outings and intergenerational groups invited in provide community interaction. It is vital to feel part of society as a whole. To further develop this concept, Current events including local, world and state news and views are reviewed daily.
How are physical needs met?
- Assessments in various categories are completed routinely. Plans are developed. Family, the resident, the doctor and Libby's House staff collaboratively put together plans that are individual to each resident.
- Libby's House resident assistants will help with bathing, grooming, dressing and other daily routines at the level needed. While always promoting independence and encouragement to continue these tasks with minimal help, we watch for that delicate time when one cannot complete these tasks without assistance. We then will increase the level of help offered.
- Residents do not have to be able to walk alone. We offer stand by assistance, wheel chair escorts and other modes of mobility. Many misconceptions of assisted living include "but my loved one cannot walk alone so they cannot come here"....be assured you are still quite eligible for admmission.
- Medications are managed by trained staff and overseen by a registered nurse.
